Chiefs Blow the Jets Back to New York

The (6-1) Kansas City Chiefs faced off with the (0-7) New York Jets in Kansas City. As the Kansas City Chiefs were the obvious choice for all of the knowledgeable betters as they had the home field advantage and the 6-1 to 0-7 record.  According to the New York Times article N.F.L. Week 8 Predictions: Our Picks Against the Spread, “In the only other instance of the Jets starting with an 0-7 record was in 1996, quarterback Neil O’Donnell lost the team’s first six games before injuring his shoulder and handing off to Frank Reich, who lost his first two games. Reich and company finally eked out a win over the Arizona Cardinals to end the losing streak at eight. Then the Jets lost their final seven games as well.”


As Patrick Mahomes leads the 6-1 Kansas City Chiefs to another quick start in their first drive with mostly short passes and great blocking. As the Chiefs score their first touchdown with a jet sweep. Number 17 McCole Hardman catches the jet sweep flick pass from Mahomes and tucks the ball in the crook of his elbow. With a great offensive line and downfield blocking the Hardman runs the ball all the way into the end zone. As the New York Jets start off pretty fast as well getting many first downs. A pass almost picked off by Chief cornerback number 32. Incomplete passes slow the Jets drive to 4th and 11 field goal on the 23 yard line.


As both teams scored on their first drive the Chiefs lead the jets at 7-3. The Chiefs start their second drive with 4 minutes and 33 seconds on the 27 yard line. Travis Kelce gets the first down on a short pass on the second play of the Chiefs second drive. Incomplete pass to Tyreek Hill could’ve been another Chiefs touchdown falls too far for Hill to catch. Then Mahomes throws a deep touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill for the second touchdown. In excitement Hill jumps up onto the stands and celebrates. Then the extra point goes in and the score goes to 14-3 now Jets on their second drive get called fro a penalty and a run that leaves them at 2nd and 12. Then their runner gets them 5 yard for the 3rd and 7. While injurin one of their linebackers. Then a run for negative gets them negative yards to make them kick a 55 yard field goal that was good on a 4th down and 12 yards which puts the score 14-6.


On the start of the Chiefs 3rd drive their receiver for the kickoff chooses to make a fair catch in the end zone. Which leaves the Chiefs at the 25 yard line. Then a run that gets them 1 yard to the 2nd and 9 and a sack by the Jets for 3rd and 9.  Then the Jets get called for a penalty. A neutral zone infraction which leaves the Chiefs at 3rd and 4. Then a first down. At 2nd and 6 the Chiefs drive ends with two plays getting sacked behind the line of scrimmage for the Chiefs to punt it. A jets run leads to a 2nd and 1. Then the Jets get a first down with a run on their 3rd drive. A Jets QB sneak gets them 5 yards to the 2nd and 5, and a run for 2 yards for the 3rd and 3. A run leads to a 4th and 1. The drastic jets go for it and succeed with a run to get the first down. One of the Jets few passes gets them 8 yards for the 2nd and 2. Then one of the Jets very many runs gets them the first down on the 33 yard line with 4 minutes and 30 seconds. On 2nd and 9 Sam Darnold the jets quarterback almost throws an interception but the pass hits the ground. Then an incomplete pass leads to a 3rd field goal on 4th and 9 with 4 minutes left.


As the jets kicker is getting a lot of attention the score is 14-9 on the Chiefs 4th drive. 1st and 10 for the Chiefs. Their number 17 Mecole Hardman drops a pass to make it 2nd and 10. Then number 25 Clyde Edwards-Helair for the Chiefs catches a pass then instantly gets tackled for negative yards. 3rd and 13 Mahomes drills a bullet right to number 87 Travis Kelce in a tight pocket for the first down. Number 25 Helaire catches a pass for the 2nd and goal on the three yard line. Kelce catches a touchdown pass then gets called for unsportsmanlike conduct but the touchdown still counts. The extra point is good  the score is 21-9 and it’s time for the Jets 4th drive with 58 second left in the first half. The Jets start their 4th drive with a flag to the Chiefs for the Jets to start on the 50 yard line. An incomplete pass leads to a slow start to the Jets 4th drive. A tremendous play by Darnold with a 6 yard QB run and an incomplete pass for 4th and 4 with 19 seconds left in the half. The Jets huddle up and call a pass for the 1st down. Then a spike for one more chance for a field goal with two seconds left. The field goal was blocked and number 17 takes it to the 30 yard line for the score to stay 21-9 at the end of the 1st half.


As the second half starts with the Chiefs kicking the ball off to the Jets for their 5th drive on the 17 yard line. Then 2nd and 10 with and incomplete pass. Then a run for 4 yards to make it 3rd and 6. A pass blocked by by Chiefs number 35 cornerback Ward. Then the Jets are forced to punt the ball but there’s a flag. The flag is on the Chiefs number 11 for offsides. As the Chiefs start their 5th drive with a fair catch on the 31 yard line they run it with Edwards-Helaire for 4 yards to make it 2nd and 6. Then a pass to Hill for the first down, but it is called incomplete. A flag is called on the Chiefs Edwards-Helaire for false start which makes it 3rd and 6. Then an incomplete pass to make it 4th and 11. The Chiefs are forced to punt it.


The Jets start their 6th drive of the game with the score still 21-9 on the 25 yard line with 13 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. A fake run on 2nd and 8 Darnold runs it for 5 yards to make it 3rd and 3. Berrids number 10 wide receiver drops a pass that would’ve made it 1st down so the Jets are forced to punt to end their drive and start the Chiefs. The Chiefs start their drive with 11 minutes and 30 seconds. Their first play is an incomplete pass that would’ve lead to a touchdown. Their second play is a pass for negative yards to make it 3rd and 14. A first down pass to number 17 brings alive the Chiefs drive with another pass for 9 yards. A run leads to a first down by Chiefs number 26 Bell. Then a 15 yard pass to Kelce for a 1st down. Then an illegible receiver down field penalty against the chiefs makes it 2nd down. And a false start also on the chiefs makes it 3rd and 25, but a pass makes it 4th and 1. On 4th and 1 the chiefs runner Bell was not able to get the first down.

As it is back to New York’s ball on their 7th drive of the game they start off slow in their running. With only 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. An incomplete pass, a run for negative, and a pass leaves the Jets at a 4th and 1 punt. The chiefs start their 7th drive with 5 minutes and 36 second left on the 12 yard line in their own territory. Two pass leaves the Chiefs at a 1st down. Two short passes get the Chiefs another first down. A humongous touchdown pass is caught by Chiefs Demarcus Robinson number 11. The extra point is good. The score is 28-9.


The Jets are on 3rd and 4 with 1 minute left and Darnold throws a 1st down pass. Then Darnold threw a pass and the receiver was instantly popped by a cornerback and fumbled the ball as the Chiefs recovered it. Just enough time in the third quarter for one play before it ends with the Chiefs in control of the game and the ball. The beginning of the 4th quarter the chiefs ran the ball for 7 yards to make it 2nd and 3. Then an incomplete pass leads to a 4th and 3 53 yard field goal. Then the chiefs were forced to punt because of a penalty of false start.


The chiefs were able to defend their kick and let it roll out of bounds at the 2 yard line to set up the Jets with terrible field positioning even though two chiefs bumped into each other and the refs called the play a touchback. Two incomplete passes lead to a terrible drive by the Jets and a punt. The chiefs managed to return the ball to the 35 yard line with 13 minutes left in the game. Then off a couple of incomplete passes it was 3rd and 7. Patrick Mahomes threw a 1st down pass to Travis Kelce. Incomplete passes lead to a 3rd and 5. On 3rd and 5 Hill manages to smoke his defender and Mahomes sees that and throws a touchdown pass to Hill the the extra point was good. The score is now 35-9 the Chiefs as expected are blowing the Jets out of the water.


With 11 minutes left in the game the Jets started off slow with multiple low yard runs and incomplete passes lead to 4th and 4 and the Jets are forced to punt it. The start of the Chiefs drive their backup quarterback Chadd Heyme came in with a lot of experience he did not fail the chiefs. With a pass to Hardman the Chiefs were able to get their first down. With a series of runs and short passes the Chiefs get another first down. One run by the Chiefs secondary got them the first down. Then the Chiefs drive slowed down to 3rd and 12 also injuring a receiver. With a low yardage run the Chiefs get to 4th and 12 the Chiefs are forced to punt it.


The Chiefs ended their drive with the clock ticking down the seconds. With 2 minutes left in the game the Jets start their drive on the 35 yard line. A run gets them 8 yards. Then a negative yardage run puts the Jets at 2nd and 9 with not enough time for another play. The game ended the Chiefs in favor with the score at 35-9 the Jets as expected got blown away. The now (7-1) Kansas City Chiefs must practice to face off with (3-5) Carolina Panthers. As for the newly (0-8) New York Jets they must practice to no end with a lot of running, scolding, and reteaching of the basics to face off with the (2-5) New England Patriots.
