Animal Cruelty: Dark Truth Behind Everyday Meat Products

Animal Cruelty: Dark Truth Behind Everyday Meat Products

Humans and animals used to live in peace, maintaining a healthy and steady balance between the two. However, this scale has now been tipped in favor of humans, as animal cruelty is at its peak and is escalating into even harsher treatment.

In order to feed consumers’ endless craving for meat, 80 billion land animals, along with 160 billion farmed fish, are slaughtered. Despite these alarming numbers, many think it is necessary to slaughter these animals for human consumption. However, the animals suffer significantly, as they are raised and killed in neglectful conditions. Examples of such abuse are egg-laying hens being put in bare wire cages that prevent them from fully spreading their wings. Cattle are also victims of this abuse as they are shoved into individual crates that disable them from turning around or moving more than a single step.

In response to these forms of animal cruelty, organizations such as The Humane League and Mercy for Animals have emerged to end the abuse of animals raised for food. Clearly, it is evident that animal cruelty should be acknowledged and called out against for the benefit of the animals, humans, and the environment.
