The expansion of “The Happiest Place on Earth” has been quite the talk lately. Disneyland, located in Anaheim, California, is a theme park known for its immersive experiences and rides and it’s just gained approval to expand its magic. Known as DisneylandForward, the new proposal will allow the theme park to build new attractions on its property. The project is estimated to go on for 40 years, the first step being the $1.9 billion expansion that has been unanimously approved by the Anaheim City Council. Though it is not decided what is going to be built, there are ideas for the construction of Toy Story Land, Arandelle from Frozen, and more shopping centers with additional parking structures.
There are many advantages to this new project, including an increase in revenue and more job opportunities. According to CNN.com, 50% of Anaheim’s funding comes from the tourism industry. This means that expanding Disneyland would bring more revenue to the city by attracting more tourists to see the different expansions. In addition, the new attractions would also create jobs within and around the theme park.
However, there are some reasonable concerns about Disneyland expanding. For one, more people going to Disneyland would lead to an increase in traffic around Disneyland. Not only would increased traffic affect residents who live in the area, but more tourists would also mean an increase in noise pollution.
All in all, the new upgrade Disneyland is getting has both advantages and drawbacks. Only time will tell how this gigantic development project will affect Anaheim residents and tourists.
