Luke Park was an eighth grader at Parks Jr. High last year, who earned second place in an international competition that will send him to Carnegie Hall in New York City. Luke’s recital at Carnegie Hall is scheduled for December, 2017.  Luke is a violinist and was a member of the Parks’ Symphony Orchestra. These are some questions we asked him relating to him winning.

Q: Luke, how do you feel about being nominated to Carnegie Hall?

A: I am surprised because I didn’t think I was going to win since it’s world wide.

Q: How did you prepare for this?

A: I just played the song that I have been practicing with my private tutor.

Q: How do feel now that you have been nominated?

A: I feel really honored because only few professionals perform at Carnegie hall.

Q: What were some of the difficulties you faced?

A: Recording it was pretty hectic as the mic would suddenly fail sometimes. Also I had only 6 tries to make it perfect due to time constraints.

Q: Were you nervous, excited, confident, etc?

A: I was just tired as I didn’t expect much out of it. I thought I wasn’t going to make it.

Q: What was your reaction when you found out you were nominated?

A: When my mom told me after school, I thought she was lying but I got the email too and then I was very shocked.

Q: Are you content with being second place?

A: Yes, but I feel like I could have done better.

Q: What would you like to say to the person who won first place?

A: Good job, good luck, have fun.

Q: If you had a second chance to do this, do you believe you would get first?

A: Yes, because I didn’t really try my best because I thought I wasn’t going to make it and I was kind of tired that day.

Q: Do you think you made any mistakes during the audition?

A: Yes, but it’s all right because I’m pretty sure they only watch like the first half of the video since a lot of people submit it. I messed up 20 seconds before the end.

Good job, and congratulations, Luke!
