On the eleventh of November, Americans celebrate military veterans, and the name of this day is called Veterans Day. During this holiday, people donate to charities for veterans, like the Wounded Warrior Project. Others participate in the two-minute national moment of silence or even visit a veteran memorial. Some people may visit them in a retirement home, decorate graves of those who have lost their lives, or make a card to thank them for their service.

Veterans Day was not always called by that name. In the year of 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as Armistice Day and on May 13, 1938, an Act was approved to make it a legal holiday. Armistice Day was originally a day to honor those who have fought in World War I, but after World War ll, “Armistice” was replaced by “Veterans.” The legislation approved it and on June 1, 1945, November 11 became a day for American veterans of all wars.
