*BEEP BEEP* You wake up on a Monday morning to the sound of your loud alarm clock. You notice that you are going to be late to school, so you quickly get ready and pack everything you need into your backpack. You rush out the door and begin to head to school.

Something is missing. If you guessed eating breakfast, then you are correct. Many people take eating breakfast for granted, but what you do not know is that eating breakfast is essential to your everyday life. From your mental health to your physical health, eating breakfast is very beneficial and important.

Breakfast is the first meal of the day and some say the most important. Breakfast supplements the necessary nutrition and energy that is needed throughout the day. Studies have shown that eating breakfast decreases the chance of having diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. It is also stated from the Kettering Health Network that eating breakfast in the morning can boost your mood. The Better Health Channel also states that if you skip breakfast you may lack supplements such as iron, zinc, and calcium. Eating breakfast daily may improve your health greatly.

According to the USDA Food and Nutrition Service, if you eat breakfast you are more likely to do better in school. This includes having better concentration, getting along well with other peers, and having a boost of memory. Your test scores are likely to get better, and so should your math and reading skills. Eating breakfast greatly impacts your learning, and how well you perform at school.

Some nutritional food recommendations to eat for breakfast:

  • Oatmeal
  • Greek Yogurt parfait
  • Fruits
  • Protein shakes

Unhealthy foods NOT to eat for breakfast:

  • Pancakes and Waffles
  • Fruit Juices with artificial components
  • Processed foods
  • Pizza

Breakfast helps improve your learning ability, your physical energy, and mood. Making healthy choices is very important for your current life and will most likely affect your future. Although eating breakfast may be beneficial, it all comes around to what you choose to eat. All in all, it’s very important to eat a full and healthy breakfast every morning.
