Picking a good elective is important in order to make new friends, have fun, and develop different interests. In the sixth grader, everyone had to choose the three electives they wanted to have. At the time, this was a very stressful decision to make. I wanted Culinary 1, Spanish A and maybe Orchestra. But of course, with my luck, I ended up with orchestra. I remember thinking for the first couple weeks of school that this class was going to be lame, because I didn’t know anyone. However, my views eventually changed.

Orchestra helped me make new friends, become a better flautist, and go to many places. The class itself is made of highly skilled students, taught by Mr. Boughter. Many students of Mr. Boughter enjoy having him as a teacher. Preston Shin, a student of Mr. Boughter says, “Mr. Boughter makes the class stress free and comfortable.” The orchestra consists of various string instruments as well as a couple of flutes and clarinets. I would recommend it to anyone who plays these instruments. The class is filled with people of the same interests as me. We practice daily to prepare for future concerts and events. Our songs and pieces consist of many different genres and difficulty levels. The music we play in our class brings joy to all of our audience.

Because of orchestra, I have been able to perform and go to many different places. For example, when I was in the seventh grade, our orchestra was able to go to Sacramento to perform at the state capital. In addition, we played at various nursing homes, churches, and even DisneyLand! Orchestra is a great elective at Parks Junior High School for many reasons.
