If you read our previous article, we had spoke about the Penguins chance of making the playoffs. Remarkably, they pulled their team together and earned a spot in the playoffs. Now, the challenge they face is beating the notorious New York Islanders in the next four games, as they are losing 3-0 in the series. In the NHL, the series is a best of seven, meaning the Penguins can’t lose another game, or they will get eliminated in the first round.

Sidney Crosby, the Pittsburgh Penguins captain, stated “We need to win one game at a time. Focus, train, and get into a game mentality.” The Penguins undoubtedly have the best team in the league; on paper their statistics blow the Islanders through the roof. As many athletes will say, your mindset and attitude before a big game can make all the difference. It does not matter if you are the best team in the league, or have the best players, but if they go into the game with a fixed negative mindset, only looking at the worst possible outcome, it can be extremely hard for one to play well.

Studies have shown that an optimistic outlook on a situation will help create a positive outcome. However, positive thinking is only half of what is needed to succeed. Of course, you need to be good at whatever you are trying to do. The Pittsburgh Penguins have proved to be an incredible team, and we believe they have the mindset and skill to move on to the next round.

All in all, we know deep down the Penguins are the team to beat. I know that team very well, and they have some surreal firepower that we’re sure they are waiting to unload on their fellow rivals. They did not make this push to get knocked out in the first round. Guaranteed.
