Poetry Shirt Day is a tradition that eighth graders at Parks Junior High participate in every year. The assignment for the Poetry Shirt is to write four poems on a T-shirt with puffy paint or fabric markers. The requirements are to have a “Praire Poem”, a “Concrete Poem”, an Ode or Metaphor Poem, and a favorite poem by a published author.  The student can decorate the shirt with whatever designs or patterns they desire. The poems on the shirt are different for everyone. The students have written various poems and learned a lot about poetry. In their ELA class, they have learned about various styles of poetry, different types of poetry, and much more. In Mrs. Halstead’s ELA 8 Honors class, students have written four poems and they will be writing three of them on a T-shirt. After all this is finished, all 8th graders have to wear their shirt on May 22nd of this year.
