Sonic Mania, one of, if not the best Sonic game ever released. It was released in August 15th, 2017 by SEGA for Sonic’s 25th anniversary as along with Sonic Forces. Sonic Mania pays an homage to the classic Sonic games, the main ones being Sonic 1, 2, 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic CD, originally released on the Sega Genesis (and Sega CD for Sonic CD). This game is mainly nostalgic, containing classic zones such as (for you Sonic fans like me) Chemical Plant, Lava Reef, Stardust Speedway and of course everyone’s FAVORITE zone: Green Hill. It also contains some new zones like Studiopolis.

The game has three main characters to play as: Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, as well as Mighty and Ray if you bought the Sonic Mania Plus DLC. The two main modes for the game are regular mania mode and encore mode. Mania mode plays though the events of Eggman (the nemesis of Sonic) finding a gem called the Fantom Ruby which takes Sonic and friends on a journey to stop his plan of using it,  running through all kinds of zones. Along with Eggman, there is a new set of villains: The Hard-Boiled Heavies who are robots created by Eggman. In encore mode Sonic returns from Sonic Forces (Both games are linked together) but finds that Mighty and Ray are trapped in a capsule, as well as a surviving heavy. This heavy (Heavy Magician) has the Fantom Ruby and reverses time, replaying the mania mode but with a twist. This mode lets you switch between two characters at a time while having all the characters with you (only two are on screen at a time though). There is also competition mode, which lets you play with your friends.

For my opinion of the game, it is FANTASTIC. The game throws me into colorful worlds while experiencing nostalgia from it. And overall, I’m just a fan of Sonic. I recommend this game 10/10 for everyone, yes even non-Sonic fans, just try it out and you’ll see why it’s so great.
