Everything you need to know about Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure during the Halloween holidays.

Greetings from The Happiest Place on Earth!

If you were to ask any local, “When is the best time of year to visit Disneyland?” they would without a doubt say it is during the month of October. The weather is perfect, the summer crowds have gone, and the decor is out ready to welcome the next few months of holidays beginning with Halloween.

Thanks to Disney’s Social Media Conference last month, I was invited to spend a few days soaking up everything Disneyland, Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, and California Adventure has to offer.  There are so many cool things planned for the Disney Parks over the next few months and I wanted to share them with you.

Usually, when I go with my parents or friends, we have our days at the Parks down to a science, but this time, we rode every single ride, tried every new seasonal food and drinks, and caught all of the Halloween Time thrills, parades, and fireworks. It was so much fun!

Pro Tip: Find the roaming photographers strolling about the parks because they always know where the best shots are. And let’s face it, if it’s not on Instagram, did it even happen?

Season’s Screamings from The Haunted Mansion

This year, the Haunted Mansion is celebrating its 50th birthday and I couldn’t wait to zap my FastPass and get inside to see how Jack and Sally redecorated. For those who don’t know, this is the time of year our favorite couple from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas is known to take over the Haunted Mansion with their beloved, Zero, but this time it was even more off-the-charts.

I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but let’s just say the halls were decked and jolly. Actually, scratch that, let me just say it is going to be a ghoulish Christmas in the haunted mansion.

Pro Tip: Bookmark this page if you are planning on visiting Mickey and friends over the holidays, and be sure to download the Disneyland app on your phone because we were able to place our dining orders while waiting in line for rides, access our FastPasses, find out wait times, and keep all our photos organized from the day. The app helps you and your group save so much time.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

While there is nothing specifically special on the calendar for Batuu in honor of Halloween, (I’m pretty sure they don’t celebrate this holiday in the galaxy that’s far, far, away…) I still wanted to share with you a few things you must see since the area just opened this summer.

The Bazaar is a great place to snap some photos of great Star Wars collectibles, catch up with characters, and hide from the Stormtroopers and Kylo Ren. Right outside of the Bazaar is Savi’s Workshop where you can hand build your very own lightsaber.

Dock 7 next to the Millenium Falcon is one of our favorite restaurants in the park. It’s a great place to escape the heat on hot days, and in the center of everything. The food is also delicious so there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Pro Tip: Should you see a Stormtrooper, quietly tell them while pointing to someone in your group that they are part of “The Resistance,” and see what happens. Let’s just say, there will be an interrogation.

But I know you are all wondering by now the same thing, “How is the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ride?” Let’s just say its the coolest ride at Disneyland and worth the wait in line. Climb aboard what Hans Solo once called the “fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy” and take your seat as either a pilot, engineer, or gunner while you jump into hyperspace towards adventure facing danger missions along the way.

Disney’s California Adventure

Disney’s California Adventure is a blast with great rides! The park made up of multiple areas like Pixar Pier with rides based on your favorite Disney characters from movies like The Incredibles which is the Incredicoaster (which used to be California Screamin’)  and rides from Toy Story.

Cars Land is a lifesize replica of Radiator Springs with fun rides like Radiator Springs Racers and great photo ops, but the most thrilling ride is in Hollywood Land where the amazing Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout is. This. Ride. Is. Awesome!  One of the most thrilling rides in any of the Disney Parks. And to celebrate Halloween, they have mixed things up.

Until October thirty-first, from 8 pm to whenever California Adventure closes, Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout! Turns into Guardians of the Galaxy: Monsters After Dark and it’s amazing. Not amazing, AWESOME!!! I want to talk about it, but sadly, Knowing me, I’ll spoil. That just isn’t cool, but what I will tell you is Rocket tries to kill you. Or at least use you as bait.

But, if you like the original ride, just know it is going to be around all year. They should have other holidays on this ride.

On hot days, escape the heat while riding on Grizzly River Run, it is a water ride and it is so much fun.I highly recommend it, but if you don’t like water rides be warned, you will get wet. Sometimes even drenched. And finally, California Soarin’ is a great ride to try when the sun is beating down in the afternoon. I’m sorry, but you cannot change my mind, I think Soarin’ is the  BEST RIDE IN ALL OF CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE!

Fun Fact: DCA recently took down Bugs Life land and the area is boarded up with the name “Stark Industries.” Rumor has it that Tony Stark and his people are building a new Avengers Land complete with hotel!

Seasonal Snacks

Yum. Yum. and more Yum.

There is no shortage of delicious snacks at Disney Parks; however, during the holidays there are SO MANY! Sure you can always get Disney’s famous Dole Whip from the Tiki Bar in Adventure Land, but during the holidays try something new!

After we exited The Haunted Mansion, we took a short break and grabbed some seats at the Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square near the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and treated ourselves to some Mickey-shaped Pumpkin Spice Beignets and non-alcoholic Blackberry Midnight Juleps with a lychee “moon.”

I and my mom got an Oogie Boogie Krispy treat, which when I ate it I realized it was really an original Rice Krispy treat with gummy worms in it, and with colored fondant. It was a good looking treat, but also it lacked flavor.

I sound like a food critic.

Take a look at some of these other treats available around the Parks this month…

Endless Rides and Amazing Memories

That’s true! Disneyland and California Adventure are  AWESOME. I will definitely go back in the future and hope you do too. Between the food, sights, and attractions, Disneyland is a place you never are going to forget. Happy Hauntings and maybe the ghosts of The Haunted Mansion will visit you too!

Happy Hauntings Disney Fans!
