Catherine Coberly

Catherine Coberly, Contributor

Catherine Coberly was born on March 19, 2011, the same year a new species of dolphins called the Burrunan Dolphin Tursiops was discovered. Catherine is half-Korean and half-American, with her mom being Korean and her dad being American. She has one dog named Jin and in the past has had two dogs named Wilee and Sooney. She has spent most of her life living in a house in a quiet neighborhood that is a walking distance from Parks. She enjoys the close distance to her school because she can walk from her house to her school and admire the forest-like atmosphere along the way. The other two places she used to live were a house in Baker and another in San Diego. Catherine enjoys knitting, gardening, swimming, and above all else, drawing and doing other kinds of art. In the Reflections Contest of 2022, she took first place with a watercolor drawing made for the competition she painted at one of her art classes. Although she can use watercolor, her favorite medium (drawing tool) is the ballpoint pen, which she’s used for some of her greatest works. In the Reflections Contest of 2023, she’s going to try using a ballpoint pen for the first time in a competition like this. Her dream career is to be an artist who can make enough money to one day travel to different countries, namely Korea, with her family. When it comes to her dream college, she wants to go to either an art college or the same college that her mom went to. Her favorite quote that inspires her to be happy is “Never regret anything that made you smile,” a quote written by Mark Twain. Sometimes, life can be tough and there are plenty of regrets, but something that made you happy shouldn’t be one of them. This is one of the many messages this quote sends to her.
