Elijah Bartolome, Contributor
Elijah Bartolome was born on October 21st, 2009, which was the day hall-of-fame pitcher for the Yankees Whitey Ford was born. When Elijah was born, his parents had a debate on what to name him, but ended up naming him after the prophet Elijah. As he grew older, Elijah grew a deep interest in baseball. One of his deepest memories is watching his favorite team, the New York Mets, lose to the San Francisco Giants. He had just recently broken his arm so he was devastated by both his arm and the game. His interest in baseball only grew after that as he progressively became better and better. Elijah would go on to make an all-star team when he was 11 and 12 at GHLL. Currently, he plays for the Trojan Warriors which is a travel ball program constructed by coaches at Troy High School. He enjoys the program because of the hard work and training that is put in to help him and his friends get better. Another one of his interests is the piano. At the age of 8, he started taking piano lessons which he fairly enjoyed. Once he turned 9 though, he almost quit due to all the practicing and boring things he learned. But he persevered and continued to play the piano with that same enjoyment he felt when he was 8. When he plays the piano, he makes it feel as if he were playing on a silky and puffy cloud. Other hobbies he enjoys doing are video games, card games, and hiking. He has also visited many different places like the calm beaches in Hawaii and the electrifying city of Manhattan. A quote that influences Elijah is, “you will never know unless you dive.” This to him means you will never know how to deal with challenges unless you are willing to experience it with a hard work ethic.
