Ava Nguyen, Contributor

Ava Nguyen was born on March 29, 2010, the same day when, 203 years earlier, German astronomer Wilhelm Olbers discovered the brightest asteroid in the sky, the minor planet Vesta. She’s lived in Fullerton, California, with her parents, younger sister, and dog since birth and went to Sunset Lane for elementary, while planning to attend Sunny Hills for high school. When she was younger, she was a pre-competitive swimmer, but following the pandemic, she started playing tennis with the plan of playing for the Sunny Hills high school team. Since pre-school, Ava’s been interested in science, including astronomy, chemistry, and biology. In the future, she wants to major in something science-related, although the term might be broad. She enjoys drawing in her sketchbooks, writing short novels, spending time with friends and family, and reading. Spending time with her family is a big part of her life. Being half Korean and Vietnamese, she has two contrasting sides of the family, from personality to culture. And to represent the two, her grandfather gave her a Korean middle name, 진주, which means pearl, while her last name is common in Vietnam. A quote that she now lives by is, “Creativity is intelligence having fun.” -Albert Einstein
