Panther Palooza 2023

Panther+Palooza+2023

On Aug. 20, our school held our 2023 Panther Palooza, an event to kick off the new school year! At the beginning of the day, we spent time with our Advisor classes and then headed to the Theatron for an assembly hosted by the administration and Mr. Sonny. The crowd was a sea of color as different Advisory groups were given a specific color and t-shirt to wear.

During the assembly, there was a lot of friendly competition as the different teams participated in various games. Students who wanted to participate raised their hands and if they were chosen, they ran down to the stage. Some of the competitions included Face the Cookie, a balloon relay race, and musical chairs. The teachers even joined in with a special edition of Name That Singer! The assembly ended with a massive crowd wave that got all of the entire campus standing and cheering.

Toward the end of the day, the students went outside for a fun field day. There were a lot of games and sports you do, but if you just wanted to relax, you could sit in a shaded spot and spend time with your friends. Throughout the event, the teachers handed out free water bottles and popsicles for everyone to enjoy on the hot day. Panther Palooza 2023 was a big hit with kids still talking about it the next day and begging for another day like this in the future!

Karen Reyes, Contributor
Karen Reyes was born on October 1, 2010, the same year the song “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars came out. She grew up with her mom, dad, and her four sisters in Mexico for a tiny bit. Eventually, she and her family moved here to California except it was just her, Karen’s parents, and two of her sisters Darlyn and Jackie that moved to California. Her two other sisters were left behind in Mexico due to the lack of money her family had at that time and left with her aunt. At first, it was a struggle to find a place to settle down and live in once they arrived in California, but eventually, they settled down in where they live right now. Later on, as she grew she found interest in music, writing, and drawing. She mostly liked listening to music as she was drawing or writing. When she had some free time she hung out with her friends or just called or texted them. Her goals in the future are to get good grades and go to college. If you see her, she may not seem like the girl that reads books but she loves it.“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”- Theodore Roosevelt.
