The Oscars 94th Academy Awards was full of events, but one specific incident stood out. People have been talking about the wild event that happened at the Oscars. Gossip has been spread about the fact that Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. People have been calling this outrageous disturbance “The slap heard around the world.”

Let us return to what the Oscars are about:movies. There were many winners and several artists that won multiple awards. The award for Best Picture went to the movie, CODA. CODA is about a girl who is the only member of her family that can hear, hence the acronym Child of Def Adult. The award for Best Actress went to Jessica Chastain. The award for Best Animated Feature went to the movie, Encanto. The award for Best Director went to Jane Campion for the movie, The Power of the Dog. The award for Best Supporting Actress went to Ariana DeBose. The award for Best Original Screenplay went to the film, Belfast. The award for Best Original Score, Best Visual Effects, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, and Best Sound went to the movie, Dune. The award for Best Short Documentary went to, The Queen of Basketball. The award for Best Costume Design went to the movie, Cruella. The award for Best Actor went to Will Smith. The award for Best Original Song went to Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell for “No Time To Die.” The award for International Feature Film went to the film, Drive My Car. The award for Best Documentary Feature went to, Summer of Soul. The award for Live Action Short Film went to the film, The Long Goodbye. The award for Best Adapted Screenplay went to the movie, CODA. The award for Best Animated Short Film went to the film, The Windshield Wiper. Lastly, the award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling went to the movie, The Eyes of Tammy Faye.

During the Oscars 94th Academy Awards, the cast of Encanto performed a remix of their hit song, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.” In the performance there was a surprise collaboration with Megan the Stallion. Some parents were not pleased with the performance because their children were disappointed with the remix. Newsweek says, “ ‘Every child watching the most explicit female rapper inexplicably replacing their favorite parts of the song that they’ve been singing every day all year.’ ”

On March 27, 2022 at the Oscars, Chris Rock, who was the host, made an insulting joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair (wife of Will Smith). Apparently, Chris Rock made a G.I Jane joke regarding Jada’s shaved hair. What he didn’t know was Jada has a medical condition where she loses hair due to stress and the immune system attacking hair follicles. Will Smith was affronted by this joke so he came up on the stage and slapped Chris Rock. Although Will Smith did apologize to Chris Rock, the Academy Awards, and the nominees he is now banned from the Oscars for about 10 years.

In conclusion, the Oscars 94th Academy Awards was very noteworthy and will presumably be remembered for a long time. It featured the first live performance and had a sudden turn of events. All the nominees worked hard to be nominated so congratulations to them and the winners.
