On March 14, 2024, some of our 8th-grade students began their trip to the East Coast for the annual DC Trip. Throughout the trip, we went to multiple museums and landmarks including the Liberty Bell, the Statue of Liberty, George Washington’s home, and much more. Our first stop was at Williamsburg, Virginia, and then we stopped by Jamestown the very next day. Both students and parents were met with questions about the old settlement as they saw Native American homes, ships, and booths that explained a variety of wars and military operations. One of the wonderful things about these places was that they had original items from the 1700-1800s that we were able to see up close. For example, when we visited different battle sites, we viewed different weapons like firearms, bows and arrows, and even wartime canons. Over the next few days, we went to Williamsburg and Monticello, and then we departed for Washington D.C. Students saw many of D.C.’s historical treasures, but many would agree that the highlight was the U.S. Capitol building. Other places we visited in the city were the White House, Arlington Cemetery, Mount Vernon (George Washington’s Home and Estate), the National Archives Museum, and memorials dedicated to veterans and families. On the seventh day, we ventured to Gettysburg, Philadelphia, and New Jersey. Although our visit was short, we still managed to see the Gettysburg Battlefield Tour and the famous Statue of Liberty. Overall, this trip allowed us to have a better understanding of the past and make unforgettable memories with our peers.
