On Feb. 24, 2024, in Glasgow, Scotland, House of Illuminati held a very misleading event based on the movie, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” Originally, it had been marketed as a fun, immersive experience that attracted many customers. However, all of the advertised images turned out to be unrealistic and AI-generated with clear inaccuracies. The actual event took place in a dingy warehouse with sparse and appalling decorations. Three actors hosted the experience, two of which were based on real characters from the movie, Willy Wonka and an Oompa Loompa. The third actor was playing an AI-generated character called The Unknown, depicted as “an evil chocolate maker who lives in the walls.” According to the actors, they were given a fully AI-generated script to memorize in less than a day before the event. All of their scripts were nonsensical, impelling the actors to improvise in an attempt to make the event fun. Pitifully, the staff was instructed to give each child two jelly beans and a cup of lemonade, but they quickly ran out of these supplies. The disappointment didn’t stop there because the tickets were priced at $45 per person which led customers to feel scammed. Some visitors called the police in a rage after being conned out of a lot of money, causing the event to shut down early. This event soon became popular online, spurring many memes criticizing how horrible the experience was and how the use of AI was able to trick so many people.
