Do you like playing video games? Are you competitive? If so, then hopefully you joined Parks new Esports club. Esports is a competition in which gamers go head on head to compete to win video games. Esports is fairly new considering the first competition was in 1972, even though it became popularized in the late 2000s. Now there are competitions held all over for games like Fortnite, League of Legends, Overwatch, and Super Smash Bros. In late July of 2019, American teen Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf won $100 million dollars in a competition where he played Fortnite. To join the new Esports club here at Parks, you had to go to the mandatory meeting on Friday 8/30 that took place at lunch in room 403. There were 42 spots open to the first people that signed up who have a portable device to play on, like phones and Nintendo switches. If you got a spot, congrats! If not, there are always other amazing activities and clubs you can join to still be involved with the school. Reminder for the members of the club: as of now, the meetings will be held in room 403 at lunch on Fridays. Also, don’t forget your device on Fridays.
