Emma Stone is a famous actor who has played numerous roles throughout her career and has received many awards for her talents.
Stone, whose previous name was Emily Jean Stone, was born on Nov. 6th, 1988 in Scottsdale, AZ. She had shown interest in acting since the age of four and got her first role in a stage production called “Wind of the Willows” at the age of 11. She eventually switched to homeschooling for two years, and during that time, she appeared in 16 more stage productions. A few years later, she attended Xavier College Preparatory but dropped out the first semester to become an actress in Los Angeles. To convince her parents to move to LA she made a PowerPoint to show them why they should move and why she should pursue this career. She succeeded in convincing them and moved to an apartment with her mom in LA in 2004. During this time, she auditioned for every single Disney show and every daughter in a sitcom but never landed any of the parts. Although she eventually got a part in “The New Partridge Family,” the show remained an unsold pilot; she also made guest appearances in a few other shows, but none of them were hugely successful.
It wasn’t until 2007 that she landed her breakout role as Jules in the comedy “Superbad.” The role put Stone on the map and also gave her the signature red hair she is now known for. In 2010, Stone landed the lead role in “Easy A,” catapulting her to another level of fame; she would then go on to star in roles such as Gwen Stacy in “The Amazing Spider-Man,” Sam in “Birdman,” and Mia in “La La Land,” which she won an Academy Award for in 2017. Some of her other famous works include “The Favorite,” “Zombieland,” and “Cruella.”
Despite all the praise and fame she gets from her acting career, the actress has had to face many personal challenges throughout her career, one being her severe anxiety. She states that it first started during her childhood when she had an anxiety attack at one of her friend’s house and the anxiety has stuck with her ever since. Though she has said to deal with constant anxiety and panic attacks, Stone found a way to use it to her advantage, channeling her emotions into the characters she is playing.
Emma Stone is an inspiration to many, showing others to pursue their passion and to keep trying despite setbacks and failures. Furthermore, by being so open about her anxiety, Stone is helping to normalize the discussion of mental health and giving others the courage to talk about it as well. Stone will only continue to inspire many more people in the future.
